Resurfacing of Southwest 16th Avenue between Archer Road and SW 13th Street is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 10, 2014. The project is expected to be complete in early September, depending on unforeseen conditions such as poor weather.
The resurfacing project will consist of the following to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and better turn movements for vehicles:
Removal of current on-street parking
Addition of bike lanes
Replacement of two (2) span wire signals to mast arm signals
Archer Road (SR24) at SW 16th Avenue (SR 226)
SW 16th Avenue at SW 13th Street (SR25/US 441)
Streetscaping on SW 13th Street
Project work will require daytime single lane closures. No lane closures will be permitted on major holidays or the weekends of home UF football games. Motorists that park along SW 16th Avenue will need to make other permanent parking arrangements, as the on-street parking will be removed once the project begins.
V.E. Whitehurst and Sons, Inc., of Williston, has been awarded the $1.8 million contract. Project funding was made available through the University of Florida Campus Development Agreement.
