NE 8th Avenue Crosswalks (200 – 500): The project includes the construction of two ADA compliant signalized pedestrian crosswalks across NE 8th Avenue at the intersections of NE 1st Street and NE Boulevard. Construction will begin on July 27, 2015 and is expected to be complete in 30 days. 9/8/15

The NE 8th Ave Crosswalk project is complete!  Two crosswalks were installed along NE 8th Avenue with rectangular rapid flashing beacons.  The project began on 7/27/15 and completed on 9/8/15 (after multiple rain delays).  The project included the installation of handicap accessible ramps, brickwork, striping and signage and cost $54,376.

What is the scope of this project?

The project includes the design and construction of two ADA compliant signalized pedestrian crosswalks (to include advanced warning signage and markings) across NE 8th Avenue. One of the crosswalks will be built at the intersection of 1st Street and the other at NE Blvd. This project was brought to the attention of the Department of Public Works by the City Commission. A high volume of pedestrians cross this busy corridor to travel between downtown Gainesville, residential neighborhoods and recreational areas such as Northeast Park.

When will construction start and how long will it last?

Construction is anticipated to start in late July of 2015. Construction will take approximately 30 days.

Who is doing the construction and what will it cost?

Hicks Seal Coating & Striping, LLC will be the contractor for this project. They were awarded the bid based on the City’s continuing services contract for sidewalk construction. The construction cost for this project is $54,376.38 which will include the concrete ADA compliant ramps, roadway markings and the pedestrian activated flashing beacons.
